According to legendary playback singer Gurdas Maan, Sidhu Moose Wala’s parents used to tell him not to write songs on gun culture.
“When you become an idol for the youth, they start doing the same things. His parents used to explain this to him. His father told me that he used to tell him to write songs on other topics. But Sidhu Moose Wala said that when he tried writing a song on his mom, no one listened. Whenever someone said something about him, he’d write a song as revenge. His fans liked that. His mind worked that way,” Gurdas Maan said in an exclusive interview with India Today. Speaking on the murder, Gurdas Maan said, “It is very sad. A legend has gone. I met his parents it is difficult to see the condition they are in. There is a sadness in all our hearts. When something like this happens, other artists also start thinking how and where we will perform.” Gurdas Maan recalled a happy anecdote when his son had asked him to make a call to Sidhu Moose Wala about two years ago.
“One of his songs had just released. He sang very well. I called him and he was so happy. He put the speaker on and made his parents talk to me. From then on, whenever I’d call, he’d do the same. His parents would say ‘Wow, Gurdas Maan loves you so much’. I said that not just me, the whole world loves him,” he narrated. Speaking on the threats that Sidhu Moose Wala had received prior to his death, Maan said, “When someone reaches such height of fame and success, threats start circling him. Boori nazar lagti hai.”
Gurdas Maan said he himself had never received such threats or been involved in any such gang war.

“ਜਦੋਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਨੌਜਵਾਨਾਂ ਲਈ ਮੂਰਤੀ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹੋ, ਉਹ ਉਹੀ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਾਪੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਾਉਂਦੇ ਸਨ। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ 'ਤੇ ਗੀਤ ਲਿਖਣ ਲਈ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਸਨ। ਪਰ ਸਿੱਧੂ ਮੂਸੇ ਵਾਲਾ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਾਂ 'ਤੇ ਗੀਤ ਲਿਖਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ ਤਾਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁਣੀ। ਜਦੋਂ ਵੀ ਕੋਈ ਉਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਕੁਝ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਬਦਲੇ ਵਜੋਂ ਗੀਤ ਲਿਖ ਦਿੰਦਾ। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ੰਸਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਸੰਦ ਕੀਤਾ। ਗੁਰਦਾਸ ਮਾਨ ਨੇ ਇੰਡੀਆ ਟੂਡੇ ਨਾਲ ਇੱਕ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਇੰਟਰਵਿਊ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਿਮਾਗ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ। ਇਸ ਕਤਲ ਬਾਰੇ ਬੋਲਦਿਆਂ ਗੁਰਦਾਸ ਮਾਨ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਇਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ਹੈ। ਇੱਕ ਦੰਤਕਥਾ ਚਲਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ. ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਾਤਾ-ਪਿਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਿਆ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਹਾਲਤ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਖਣਾ ਮੁਸ਼ਕਲ ਹੈ। ਸਾਡੇ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਦਿਲਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਦਾਸੀ ਹੈ। ਜਦੋਂ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਕੁਝ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਦੂਜੇ ਕਲਾਕਾਰ ਵੀ ਸੋਚਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਅਤੇ ਕਿੱਥੇ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰਾਂਗੇ। ਗੁਰਦਾਸ ਮਾਨ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਦਾ ਕਿੱਸਾ ਯਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਬੇਟੇ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੋ ਸਾਲ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਸਿੱਧੂ ਮੂਸੇ ਵਾਲਾ ਨੂੰ ਫ਼ੋਨ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਕਿਹਾ ਸੀ।
