The split left an unforgettable impression on all those who saw it live. Escape, riots, death and loss of loved ones are something that cannot be described in history books. Sunil Dutt was one such person who was a living witness of this painful period. Born in Jhelum, Pakistan, the actor had to come to India due to partition. On his birth anniversary, his younger daughter Priya Dutt shared an account of her life with a news portal and revealed everything about the doting father, loving husband and man of heart of gold.
Recalling the evergreen love story of her father Sunil Dutt and mother Nargis, Priya told Pinkvilla that the actor had fallen in love with Nargis even before she entered the film industry. He used to spend hours outside her house to catch a glimpse of Nargis. In 1957, Sunil Dutt got a chance to cast opposite Nargis in Mother India. Recalling the fire that broke out on the sets of the film, Priya told what her father had once said, “I would have saved someone else in his place. I fell in love with the woman she was. Be it luck or expression, the two got married the very next year after the release of the film. Love blossomed like a spring flower. However, everything changed when the late actress was diagnosed with cancer. Recalling the time, Priya said, “He completely forgot himself. He had no feeling of hunger, or sleep. There was nothing about him now. It was just about him. When Namrata and I saw his condition, surviving only on cigarettes and coffee, we became concerned. We learned to cook Indian food for him. We started working alternately with the mother in the hospital. But Dad didn’t want to leave Mom even for a moment. He would sit beside her and keep talking to her. He used to talk to her even when she was in a coma.”
Sunil Dutt became completely alone after Nargis lost the battle to this disease in 1981. But as they say, if you love someone, you can never give that place to someone else. Hence, Sunil Dutt’s love for his wife did not make him think of a second marriage. He simply spent his life in memory of his late wife. To put it in his words, “he has not found anyone like Nargis”.

1981 में नरगिस के इस बीमारी से जंग हारने के बाद सुनील दत्त एकदम अकेले हो गए। लेकिन जैसा कि वे कहते हैं, अगर आप किसी से प्यार करते हैं, तो आप वह जगह कभी किसी और को नहीं दे सकते। इसलिए, सुनील दत्त के अपनी पत्नी के प्यार ने उन्हें दूसरी शादी के बारे में सोचने नहीं दिया। उन्होंने बस अपनी दिवंगत पत्नी की याद में अपना जीवन बिताया। उनके शब्दों में कहें तो "नरगिस जैसा उन्हें कोई नहीं मिला"।
