With ‘Runway 34’, Ajay Devgn marks his third directorial venture after ‘U Me Aur Hum (2008)’ and ‘Shivaay (2016)’. In an exclusive chat with Mid-Day, the actor, along with Rakul Preet Singh, talks about handling acting and directing at the same time, and how Amitabh Bachchan has great eyes too.
The actress also spoke about working with Devgn after ‘De De Pyaar De’ and working with him again in the comedy ‘Thank God’. So what happens on set when someone is acting and directing at the same time? Devgn replies, “Actually, it is not very difficult, because when you are directing, you always prepare your actors in your mind. And because you are the actor yourself, you are grooming yourself. Huh.”
The film garnered rave reviews on April 29 and clashed with ‘Heropanti 2’ at the box-office. Talking about it, Devgn said, “I wouldn’t call it a confrontation. We also talked and we are supporting each other.” He had said in an interview that the actors of his generation are very emotional. How honest is he with filmmakers who are friends? Does he express his dissatisfaction with a script? “Of course, when you have rapport, you talk like this. When you don’t have rapport, you make excuses that you like the script but don’t have the time. But if you have rapport So you tell the director that we can work on something else.”
Amitabh Bachchan is known for his loud voice and Devgan is known for his sharp eyes. How does he see this combination? “He even has amazing eyes. As far as the combination is concerned, it’s all up to you to decide.”
