Jaspinder Narula was born on 14 November 1970 to Kesar Singh Narula, and Mohini Narula in Delhi, India. She is a well-known singer of playback, classical, and Sufi music. She is popular for her works in both Hindi and Punjabi cinema.

In 2021, After the selection by BJ Sam the Nigerian international singer, she got the opportunity to represent India in the first universal Christmas music project with other renowned personalities in the music field such as Swiss actress Christina Zurbrügg, Hollywood Actor Paul Raci, and Ghanaian Legendary singer Diana Hopeson.

In 1998, After singing the hit duet song “Pyar to hona hi tha” in the movie “Pyar To Hona Hi Tha” in collaboration with Remo Fernandes, she reached the peak of her career and also won the 1999 Filmfare Best Female Playback Award.

Her notable works include the songs of the movies Mission Kashmir, Mohabbatein, Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani, and Bunty Aur Babli.

Jaspinder Narula excels in singing Sufi music, as well as Gurbani and other Sikh religious music. Her latest Hindi music album in which she sang the song “Maula Ali Ali” with Mudasir Ali.

In 2008, She has conferred the title of India’s Best Live Performer in the NDTV Imagine singing reality series, Dhoom Macha De (2008).

 

Career

Jaspindar Narula began her career in singing at an early age. She was born into a family of musicians as her father Kesar Singh Narula was famous a music composer of the 1950s. She also took her early training in music from her father. And later she learned music under the guidance of Ustad Ghulam Sadiq Khan of Rampur Sahaswan Gharana.

In starting of her career, Narula’s main focus was to be specialized in singing bhajans and Sufiana compositions and kept herself away from film singing.

After listening to her song, Kalyan ji a renowned music director advised her to try Bollywood and also asked his son Viju Shah a famous music director to give her work in his films such as Master, Aar Ya Paar and Bade Miyan Chhote Miyan (1998). And after that, She was in Mumbai to work in the film Industry.

She is extremely proficient and adept at singing folk and devotional songs. She has been part of many music albums and a large number of successful Hindi movies including Dulhe Raja, Virasat, Mission Kashmir, Mohabbatein, and Bunty aur Babli to mention a few.

 

Personal life

Narula completed her schooling at Guru Harkishan Public School, India Gate, New Delhi, and gained her B.A Hons degree in Music from Indraprastha College for Women. In 2008, she finished her Ph.D. in Hindustani classical music at Delhi University.

She has married a Canada-based Indian businessman.
