Jagmohan Singh Dhiman is known as Jagjit Singh. He was a famous Ghazal Singer. He was born on 8 February 1941 in a Punjabi, Sikh family in Sri Ganganagar, Bikaner State, Rajputana Agency, India. He was the son of Sardar Amar Singh Dhiman and Sardarni Bachchan Kaur. He had 2 brothers and 4 sisters. He was married to Chitra Singh in December 1969. He had a son Vivek (who died in 1990) and he had a step-daughter Monica (Committed Suicide).
His favorite singers are Lata Mangeshkar, Mohd. Rafi, Talat Mehmood, Abdul Karim Khan, bade Gulam Ali Khan, and Amir Khan and his favorite poets are Mirza Ghalib, Shiv Kumar Batalvi, and Sahir Ludhianvi.
He was awarded many awards in different years: In 1998, “Lata Mangeshkar Samman” by the “Government of Madhya Pradesh”, and the “Sahitya Kala Academy Award” by the “Government of Rajasthan” and The “Government of India”, In 2003, “Padma Bhushan” by the “Government of India”, In 2012, He was posthumously awarded the “Rajasthan Ratna” (Rajasthan Highest Civilian Award).
He died on 10 October 2011 from a Brain Haemorrhage in Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai, Maharastra, India.
