एक अनुभवी लेखक और अपने समय के निर्देशक महेश भट्ट ने पहली बार स्वीकार किया है कि बदलते समय में उनके युग का फिल्म निर्माण अप्रचलित हो गया है। उनका यह भी मानना था कि पिछली सदी का सिनेमा अब नई सदी के दर्शकों के मनोरंजन के लिए सफल नहीं होगा। महेश भट्ट ने अपनी छोटी बेटी आलिया भट्ट के लिए फिल्म 'सड़क 2' से निर्देशन में वापसी करने का फैसला किया था। इस फिल्म के ट्रेलर ने जहां यूट्यूब पर सबसे ज्यादा नापसंद किए जाने वाले ट्रेलर का रिकॉर्ड बनाया, वहीं फिल्म को भी दर्शकों ने सिरे से खारिज कर दिया। अपने भाई मुकेश भट्ट से अलग हो चुके महेश भट्ट इस बार अपने पुराने करीबी निर्देशक विक्रम भट्ट के साथ मुंबई में खुले वर्चुअल स्टूडियो में नजर आए।
