Bollywood’s cultured Babuji Alok Nath is celebrating his 65th birthday today. Born on 10 July 1956, the actor is known for his work in Hindi cinema and television.
Alok Nath made his film debut with the 1982 English and Hindi film ‘Gandhi’, directed by Sir Richard Attenborough. The film won the Academy Award for Best Picture that year. After that the actor acted in many successful films and serials. His character Karan was a committed friend and a loving father. After seeing his friend disrespecting his daughter and their age-old company, he decides to give the friend a taste of his medicine by trying to belittle his son Prem (Salman Khan). But the father’s heart soon melts and he brings the estranged couple together. While it was a small role for Alok, he really stirred up Babuji’s feelings in this film. Not only his role but the entire film is an example of sanskar. As a father in this Sooraj Barjatya film, Alok gave parenting goals to every father during the 90s. His three sons Mohnish Behl, Salman Khan and Saif Ali Khan were taking moral science education and as he rightly said, it was all because of his Babuji. Kailashnath, who has no children of his own, raised his nephews Prem and Rajesh as a loving father and even became a perfect father-in-law. While he stumbles a bit in the Sanskar barometer trying to flirt with his solution, his Babuji persona in the film takes a beating. And how can we forget the scene where he lovingly feeds Tuffy. Wow, totally! If doing an emotionally challenging role wasn’t enough, Alok Nath played two similar roles – first in the Shahid Kapoor-Amrita Rao starrer Vivah and then in the TV show Bidaai. On one hand he had a beautiful niece who grew up as his shadow, while on the other his daughter faced discrimination because of being on the dark side. In both the projects, Babuji was left unhappy trying to find a balance between the two girls.
