Sumeet Anand is known as the tenth-generation singer of the Darbhanga Dhrupad tradition. According to him, he is a progressive traditionalist and it is also true for his musical expressions. He was born and brought up in a musically rich atmosphere. His great-grandfather was musical maestro Bihar Ratna Pandit Ram Prasad Pandey. He started his childhood training in music under the guidance of his grandfather Shri Birendra Mohan Pandey and his maternal grandfather Pandit Siyaram Tiwari also often guided him in his musical training which eventually provided him with a solid foundation.
Having finished his degree in Science and Management from the University, Sumeet came under the guidance of the senior-most artist of the Darbhanga tradition, Pandit Abhay Narayan Mallick to take his musical formal training. With the help and teaching of Pandit Abhay Narayan Mallick, he became a professional Dhrupadiya. Currently, he is considered to be one of the most assuring talents in Dhrupad who loves presenting Dhrupad of Darbhanga tradition in its traditional form, giving equal importance to melodic expanse (alap) and composition (pada).
Sumeet Anand often broadcasts his program from All India Radio (A.I.R) in New Delhi. He is also famous for regularly performing dhrupad recitals at musical concerts all over India.
He is one of the panelists of the Indian Council of Cultural Relations (I.C.C.R) and he got the opportunity to perform Dhrupad recitals in foreign countries such as Berlin, Hague, London, Prague, Budapest, and Paris.
Sumeet as a Dhrupadvocalist works along with a number of musicians and genres from across the country. Besides being a musician, he is also a curator, organizer, thinker, speaker, writer, and trainer. By putting all his research and musical experience, he is spreading and serving the music of his style in the country.
