The duo of Sajid Wajid, who was born in Saharanpur, was a prominent Hindi movies music director which includes brothers Sajid Khan and Wajid Khan, their father Sharafat Ali khan was a veteran tabla player and music arranger. One of the two brothers, Wajid Khan, the younger brother of Sajid Khan, Passed away on June 1, 2020. After that, Sajid Khan has been working continually as a solo music director.
Sajid Khan
Sajid Khan is the elder of the two brothers. His father Ustad Sharafat Ali Khan was a prominent Tabla Player in the music industry. His wife’s name is Lubina Khan and they are parents of two daughters, Muskaan and Mehek.
He was a student at the Academy of Asiatic Cinema and Television. He took his musical training from famous personalities in music who are Allahrakha Khan and Das Babu including his father. His paternal grandfather Ustad Abdel Latif was a prominent and influential artist in Indian cinema. His maternal grandfather Ustad Faiyyaz Ahmed Khan was also a prominent personality who was conferred a Padma Shri by the Indian government.
Before working as a music director in the music industry, he used to work in the import-export business. As he was passionate about music, his parents and friends encouraged him to focus solely on music. Then he focused entirely on music and started working as a solo artist.
He also began to work as a music director and released music under his own name. He also motivated his younger brother Wajid to focus on music. Later they started working together as a music director under the name Sajid-Wajid. But, on 1 June 2020, after the death of his brother Wajid, Sajid has been working continually as a solo artist alone.
Wajid Khan
Wajid Khan was the younger brother of Sajid Khan and the younger son of artist and tabla player Sharafat Ali Khan and Razina Khan. he started working with his brother and form an artist duo Sajid- Wajid. Apart from working with his brother, he worked as a singer separately and performed many solo acts,s and got nominations for lots of awards as a playback artist.
He completed his study at Mithibai College where he found his future wife Kamalrukh. Despite the opposition of the Wajid family, he married her under the Special Marriages Act so that she could keep her original religion of Zoroastrian (Parsi) Faith. He was the father of two children a daughter Arshi and a Son Hrehaan.
Due to constant pressure from his parents to convert his wife’s(Kamalrukh) religion, their marriage couldn’t last long, eventually, Wajid filed divorce papers in court and later they divorced.
Wajid’s health was not well after the kidney transplant in 2019, however, the operation was considered successful. After that, he started getting subsequent infections in his throat. And on 1 June 2020, he passed away due to a cardiac failure and covid infection.
Career
Sajid Wajid started his career as a music director by scoring music for Salman Khan’s Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya in 1998. In 1999, they composed music for ‘Deewaana’, Sonu Nigam’s music album. Further, the music duo got the opportunity to compose music for several films.
Both have created music for Salman Khan’s several movies. They also judged some reality shows like Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Singing Superstar, and Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2012. The title track of the television reality shows Bigg Boss 4 and Bigg Boss 6 were also composed by them. IPL 4 theme song “Dhoom Dhoom Dhoom Dhadaka”, the credit of its composition also goes to Sajid – Wajid and its title track sung by Wajid.
