Born on 8 September 1981, Prashant Pillai is known as a prominent music producer and composer from the Indian film Industry.
He studied Sound engineering in Chennai and after that, he approached A.R. Rahman to work with him. He worked with him for some time then he came to Pune and settled there. In Pune, he started making ad jingles web sonics, and short films. According to Pillai, A.R. Rahman is his professional guide and mentor in the music industry.
Career
In 2004, Pillai made his mark by composing a radio jingle and then continued to compose jingles for radio and television.
In 2007, Pillai teamed up with singer K.S. Krishnan and composed music for Bejoy Nambiar’s short film ‘Rahu’, a critically acclaimed film.
In march 2010, Prashant got his first film break when Lijo Jose Pellissery approached him for his first movie ‘Nayakan’. The most important thing is that the music of the movie was released by the Academy Award winner A. R. Rahman. In 2011 Prashant got the opportunity to work with Lijo again for his film ‘City of God. The movie featured Prithviraj and Indrajith in pivotal roles along with Rima Kallingal, Parvathi, and Shwetha Menon.
In the year 2011, he embarked on his first project in commercial cinema by working on a Bollywood film ‘Shaitan’ directed by one of his friends Bejoy Nambiar and he composed most of the songs for this movie. Anurag Kashyap the producer of the movie wants a different soundscape for the movie; co-composers of the movie were Ranjit Barot, Amar Mohile, and Anupam Roy.
In the same year on march 12, Prashant created the original background score for the popular Malayalam film ‘Bombay’ directed by screenwriter Babu Janardhan and the star of the film was the famous National Award winner Mammootty.
In the year 2012, Prashant also composed the background music for the movie Siddarth Bharathan’s Nidra which was a remake of his father’s film also titled Nidra. The score of the movie was imbued with a very definitive style and got appreciation from every section of music lovers.
One of the other works of Prashant for which he composed background music is MTV Rush, a series of 12 stories on the channel MTV, which was directed by Bejoy Nambiar.
In 2013, Prashant again scored the soundtrack for Bejoy Nambiar’s film, ‘David’ it was his third soundtrack for him and was also co-produced by Prashant. This project was a collection of different bands such as Bram Fatura, Light Years Explode, MaatiBaani, and some prominent artists like Mikey McCleary, Anirudh Ravichander, and Remo Fernandes. And some prominent singers like Lucky Ali, Karthik, Shweta Pandit, and Naresh Iyer also performed on Prashant’s tracks in the film.
‘Issaq’ is also one of his movies, directed by Manish Tiwary, for which Prashant scored the background music. Prashant also composed the music for a musical Malayalam film titled “Amen” which is directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery. The music of the film was a hit among the people and as a result, the movie became a major blockbuster.
In 2014, he also scored music for the two movies ‘Mosayile Kuthira Meenukal’ directed by Ajith Pillai, and the first movie of Santhosh Nair’s ‘Money Ratnam’.
In 2015 His four films were released one of them was Double Barrel and his fourth project with the director Lijo Jose Pellissery and his first Tamil film ‘Andhra Mess’.
