Bonnie Chakraborty has worked in the Indian and International Music Industries as a singer and composer. For the last 27 years in the industry, he is a well-known name who has been part of many hit projects.
Before his Mumbai journey as a singer, In the way back early 90s, he along with other members founded a revolutionary rock band “KROSSWINDZ” in Kolkata. In no time, this band became famous and revolutionized the rock music movement of the country by performing regularly at the country’s premiere rock festivals, Independence Rock, Mumbai, and other big festivals at the Indian Institute for Management and Sciences.
In the 90s, Bangla Rock and Pop revolution was at its rising phase in Kolkata, but KROSSWINDZ transformed rock music with the release of their album ‘Poth Geche Benke’. Since then, this band along with a cult band of the legendary Gautam Chatterjee produced many hit albums in Kolkata.
After that, he started following his journey as a playback singer and later on went to Chennai, where he got the chance to work with the Maestro AR Rahman as a playback singer. He worked for him for 6 years, and during this period he has been part of many songs for films including MANGAL PANDEY -THE RISING, GURU, NETAJI SUBHAS CHANDRA BOSE-THE FORGOTTEN HERO, JODHA AKBAR & DELLI-6.
‘KASHTI – PARCHAIYYAN’ is One of his albums which was released by Zee music in 2002.
KASHTI is his other album in which he collaborated with an ace composer and guitar player, NEIL MUKHERJEE, and spearheaded the music industry.
Lately for the last 10 yrs, Bonnie has contributed to many Bollywood films such as “Roar”, “Bobby Jasoos”, Bullet Raja, Dev.D(Emotional Atyachar Rock Version), Udaan (Motumaster), No One Killed Jessica (Aali re Saali re), 99(Soch Mat Dobara & Theme), Aalaap, besides lending his voice for, “Kahaani”, Barfi, Bullet Raja & Talaash.
He has also given his voice to Amir Khan’s popular show SATYAMEV JAYATE 1 & 3.
Two of his songs NIKAL PADO RE & MAATI are very popular among the masses and also Amir Khan’s favorite.
Apart from Bollywood Hindi films, Bonnie has also sung in other languages such as one of his critically acclaimed Bengali movies SUKNO LANKA, and also sang for BUNO HAANSH, APARAJITO TUMI, DUI PRITHIBI, OBOSHESHE, ITI MRINALINI, BAPI BARI JAA, C/O SIR & many more.
The song “BUNO HAANSH” from the movie “Zindegi” topped all the radio charts at least for 7 days in Kolkata. He also worked as a Music Director in KAUSHIK GANGULY’s, movie titled RONG MELANTI. It was also a huge hit and completed 100 days at the box office.
In 2010, He is one of the few fortunate music producers whom the BOB DYLAN FOUNDATION selected to tell about Bauls & their relationship with the modern world, in Kolkata.
Since 2000, Having researched and archived, he produced Baul and Fakri music using his platform Bonnie & Oikyotaan.
In 2012, His folk music platform Bonnie & Oikyotaan was part of TED INK TALKS, which was organized in Pune.
